The recent meeting of the Executive Committee of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) marked a significant moment for the global university sport community, with key decisions approved that will help shape FISU’s future, and with Leonz Eder announcing his intention to retire as FISU President in 2027.
Leonz’s leadership has been defined by a deep commitment to student-athletes, international collaboration and the long-term strength of university sport worldwide.
“Leonz has been a great supporter of FISU Oceania over many years. His genuine interest in our region, his encouragement of realistic and sustainable development, and his personal support for our work have made a lasting impact on university sport across Oceania.” FISU Oceania President David Schmude
At the same meeting, the Executive Committee endorsed important elements of the upcoming FISU Strategy 2031 and reaffirmed the central role of FISU events, education, wellbeing and sustainability – including the return of the Universiade name. These decisions strongly align with the priorities we continue to pursue across Oceania.
For FISU Oceania, this is both a moment of reflection and momentum. We are grateful for Leonz’s leadership and support, and we remain committed to actively contributing to the next chapter of FISU’s evolution – ensuring our universities, student-athletes and leaders across the Pacific are connected, supported and visible on the global stage.
Thank you, Leonz, for your service and continued leadership and friendship
