FISU Oceania is celebrating International Day of University Sport throughout the month of September by conducting a virtual walk around all its member countries in the Oceania region.
The initiative will see individuals and teams track their daily steps with all totals counting towards the total distance it takes to travel between all 12 of FISU Oceania’s member countries. The total goal is 20,197kms.
“This step challenge is not only a great way to get people active, but it is a terrific way to promote and highlight our Oceania countries and region to a global audience”, states FISU Oceania President Mr David Schmude. “It also enables us to celebrate university sport throughout the whole month of September and work together as one team to achieve a singular goal” added Mr Schmude.
The #LetsWalkOceania challenge commences on 1 September and starts in Brisbane Australia. The route then travels to the following cities and countries
- Auckland, New Zealand
- Noumea, New Caledonia
- Suva, Fiji
- Rarotonga, Cook Islands
- Pago Pago, American Samoa
- Apia, Samoa
- Majuro, Marshall Islands
- Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia
- Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands

“We are delighted that teams and individual participants from all over the world have signed up to take part in our virtual walk around Oceania”, says Mr Schmude. “With teams from universities and national university sport federations, we are sure there will be some friendly rivalry throughout the month”, added Mr Schmude.
