Campus and the National University of Samoa joined the people of Samoa, dignitaries and
ambassadors from around the world in celebrating Samoa’s 54th year of Independence.
More than 150 student athletes were at the Tuanaimato field from as early as 5am to join
the more than 100 organizations, schools and government ministries in the march past to
observe the first former colony in the Pacific to be given right to form its own government.
Prayers and a sermon was followed by His Highness Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese, the Head of
State of Samoa’s official address and the formal raising of the Samoan flag.
Living a balanced life is important for professional athletes and seeing Samoa’s University
student athletes participate in the March Past event shows their pride in Samoa and
wonderful ability to succeed both inside and outside of the classroom.
