FISU attends World University Championship Sailing site visit

Australian University Sport (AUS) welcomed representatives from the International University Sports Federation (FISU) to Perth, Western Australia earlier this month to conduct the official site visit for the 2016 World University Sailing Championship.

The Championship will be hosted by AUS in partnership with The University of Western Australia (UWA) from 25 – 30 September, in conjunction with the 2016 Australian University Games.

AUS General Manager Tony Jermyn, AUS National Programs Manager Donna Spethman and partner university representative Ian Fitzpatrick welcomed FISU officials Julien Buhajezuk and Roland Galliot.

The goal of the site visit was to inspect all aspects of the planning preparations for the event, including competition and logistical elements. This included inspections of the facilities at the host venue, Royal Perth Yacht Club, prospective accommodation at UWA, and attendance at the Warren Jones Regatta - the test event for the Championship.
Mr Buhajezuk commented that “Perth is the perfect city for the World University Championship Sailing. Not only is Perth home to some of Australia's most famous sailors, and winner of the America’s Cup, but it is also home to The University of Western Australia. This dynamic and sport oriented city will with no doubt host one of the best World University Championships for sailing ever on the exciting landscape of the Swan River, and I am certain the student athletes will have an incredible experience participating.”
