Medal account opened with double bronze from shooting stars
 
Team flag bearer and defending champion Catherine Skinner has won Australia’s first medals at the World University Games in Gwangju, Korea, collecting two bronze medals in the trap shooting finals.
 
Skinner took third in the individual event after leading the Uniroos to the podium in the team competition.
 
The 25-year-old chemical engineering student at RMIT in Melbourne qualified equal top after the preliminaries, but stumbled in the second half of the semifinals, missing three of six shots midway through the round before surviving a tense sudden death shoot off with Italian Valeria Raffaelli to make the bronze medal match.
