|Australia win silver at WUC Match Racing in Italy
The Australian men’s crew, skippered by Samuel Gilmore, recently won the silver medal at the 2014 WUC Rowing in Italy.
Looking to back up their win in 2012, Gilmore’s crew went into the event on Lake Ledro as the competition favourites.
However, their victory plans were spoiled by the US crew skippered by Nevin Snow. Despite losing to the US, Gilmore was very complimentary of his opponents.
"I have to recognise that the Americans have been able to sail with great speed”, commented Gilmour. “And theirs is therefore a deserved victory. Despite the second place, my crew and I return home happy. It was really an exciting Championship.”
The second Australian men’s crew skippered by Jay Griffin finished 11th while the ladies crews skippered by Tara McCall and Kathleen Stroinovski finished 6th and 7th consecutively.
The next WUC Match Racing event will take place in Perth, Australia in 2016.
